The 19th Amendment Project: Inalienable Rights

August 17, 2020

Virtual (General Admission)

Raleigh Little Theatre is proud to present a virtual performance of Deb Margolin’s Inalienable Rights, as part of Burning Coal Theatre Company’s 19th Amendment Project. The play premieres online on Monday, August 17.

In Inalienable Rights, a woman goes to her local precinct to vote before she has to pick up her daughter, but, as soon as she gets into the voting booth, something strange happens.

By Deb Margolin

Directed by Lucinda Gainey

Inalienable Rights will be hosted through Burning Coal Theatre Company. More information about the play can be found here. Learn more about Burning Coal’s 19th Amendment Project by clicking here.

We appreciate the opportunity to join with other theatre companies across the Triangle to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th Amendment, which protects women’s constitutional right to vote. During this time of celebration, we also acknowledge that the passage of the 19th amendment did not give ALL women the right to vote. While the movement itself worked to be inclusive, when it came to the actual passage, Black, Indigenous, and women of color were left out of protections or not allowed to vote because of other racist laws.

Thank you to Burning Coal for leading this important project and raising up the voices of female playwrights. Thank you to the other companies that have joined together on this project. And thank you to our volunteers for their continued dedication to our community and creating art.
