RLT’s 2023-2024 Season: Finding Home
Welcome to RLT’s 2023-2024 Season: Finding Home!
Recent years have made us all more aware of the distance between each other. The definition of family, belonging, and home have evolved, and our understanding of the space we occupy has changed.
As a community theatre, RLT is often described by volunteers as “home.” While this definition of home often means the physical space, a place that feels comfortable, we know that feeling reaches beyond the walls of the theatre and into the hearts of our community. Home is the people we feel welcomed by just as much as the space that we are welcomed into.
The collection of stories that comprise our 2023-2024 season feature characters that are understanding what home means and where it rests in who they are. Whether it is about the dedication it takes to solve a mystery, the understanding needed to know that helping others creates community, the care required to empathize with an experience that is not your own, or the heart it takes to embrace differences and find inspiration in unique places – they all must reckon with the idea that home is not simply where we are in physical space, but also the people that we welcome into our hearts and stories.

On a Sunday after church, CJ and his Nana board the public bus for their weekly trip across town to help out at a soup kitchen. Along the way, CJ notices the many differences among people and asks tons of curious questions: Why don’t we have a car? How come that man can’t see? How come it’s always so dirty over there? How?…Why?…With Nana’s fearless and compassionate guidance, CJ discovers that everyone and everything has a unique rhythm and purpose; that the world’s got answers if we listen with more than our ears and see with more than our eyes.
