Our Town (Multilingual)

July 25 - August 4, 2024

Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre (General Admission)

Thornton Wilder’s iconic, Pulitzer Prize-winning play is reimagined for the 21st century. Our Town depicts the small town of Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, through three acts: “Daily Life,” “Love and Marriage” and “Death and Eternity.” With new layers of language and culture, Our Town expands to encompass everyone in a quintessentially American – and human – story. Presented as the culmination of RLT’s 2024 Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage summer program.

By Thornton Wilder
With translated passages by Nilo Cruz and Jeff Augustin

Directed by Kasey McFerren

Presented by RLT’s Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage. Learn more about the TOS/TBS Program.

Will I understand the play if I only speak English?

Yes! In Our Town (Multilingual), family life is represented more authentically to how non-English speaking families live. The Webb family speaks in Spanish during scenes where they are at home. Similarly, the Gibbs family speaks Haitian Creole while they’re home. Supertitles will be projected onto the set to translate these scenes into English (and Spanish or Creole) for the audience. We assure you these new layers of language only enhance the classic story of Grover’s Corners!

Behind the Curtain

Our Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage are hard at work putting together their production of Our Town! RLT’s immersive summer program introduces teens to every aspect of the theatre, culminating in a full production. Here’s a glimpse of what they’ve been up to:
