Michael Dunavan

Volunteer Representative


Michael is a retired educator and community theatre enthusiast. Having received his undergraduate degree from Pembroke State University (now UNC Pembroke) and a master’s degree in education from Old Dominion University, Michael has experience across several fields and disciplines. Prior to earning his master’s degree, Michael served in the US Navy for nine years, participating in Desert Shield and Desert Storm, having previously been a golf professional. His post-military professional experience includes more than 20 years as a middle school teacher in social studies, history, and language arts, primarily in Virginia Beach City Public Schools. Outside of his day jobs, Michael has over 20 years of stage acting experience, having performed in numerous productions at the Little Theatre of Virginia Beach and the Little Theatre of Norfolk. Notable roles include Rev. Lloyd in Life With Father, Henry in Funny Money, Bensinger in The Front Page, Dr. Lyman in 1776, and the gardener in The Secret Garden.
