Movies in the Garden returns to RLT’s Stephenson Amphitheatre this summer! For the 22-23 season, our Movies in the Garden events will be spread out across the season. Check back soon for details on upcoming movie events in October, April, and May!

Join us this July for a family-friendly showing of the 2016 animated musical comedy, Sing!

Sing
Rating: PG
Seating opens: 7:30 PM
Start time: 8:30 PM
Runtime: 1h, 54min

Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, Sing stars Buster Moon, a dapper Koala who presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. Buster is an eternal optimist-okay, maybe a bit of a scoundrel-who loves his theater above all and will do anything to preserve it. Now facing the crumbling of his life’s ambition, he has one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition.

The movie will be screened outside in the Stephenson Amphitheatre. Tickets are general admission and sold at pay-what-you-can pricing. A ticket is required for all patrons, regardless of age. Masks are not required in outdoor spaces but are required inside the theatre building (visiting the restroom, etc.). Click here to read about our current COVID-19 policies. Health and safety restrictions are subject to change.

Food trucks

We’ve got a great line-up of food and drink vendors coming to Movies in the Garden!

You are welcome to bring your own picnic and non-alcoholic drinks as well. Please note our concession stand will be closed. See the detailed rules below regarding what can be brought in.

Pre-movie activities!

Come early and join Live It Up! Hillsborough Street at 7:30pm for a fun family-friendly scavenger hunt in the amphitheatre, rose garden, and outdoor spaces surrounding the theatre. Prizes will be awarded before the movie begins!

Additionally, the cast of RLT’s Xanadu will treat attendees to a special live musical performance around 8:00! Be sure to come back for Xanadu July 22-31 in RLT’s Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre.

Attending events in the Amphitheatre

Since the amphitheatre is part of a City of Raleigh park, please adhere to the following rules:

  • You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages
  • Only beer and wine purchased on site may be brought into the amphitheatre
  • The theatre reserves the right to check coolers for outside alcohol
  • No open flames or candles (including citronella candles)
  • No glass bottles allowed
  • Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash and be well-behaved

Bringing blankets or chairs makes seating more comfortable. Lawn chairs or folding chairs work well. There is grass between the concrete benches, and chairs fit well in that space.

Indoor restroom facilities, which are wheelchair accessible, are available at the Main Stage lobby entrance. Porta-johns, which are also wheelchair accessible, are located to the left of the stage near the ramp.

The RLT parking lot will only be open to vehicles with disability parking placards as well as limited parking in the front half of the lot for anyone. The RLT staff parking lot is only for drop off of patrons with wheelchairs or mobility issues – no parking. You may park on the street where signposted.
