About the Roles

Raleigh Little Theatre encourages actors of any ethnicity, identity, ability, etc. to audition for any role. If the script requires strict adherence to any characteristic(s), those will be listed in the character description. For this production, performers must be 15+ unless otherwise noted in the character description.

If you need any specific accommodations to audition, please contact Interim Executive Producer Michele Weathers, to make your request. Examples of accommodations made in the past are: wheelchair accessible audition space, large print materials, prompters in the audition room, volunteers to help fill out forms, and auditions by appointment. All choreography for the audition and the production will be designed to include actors of all abilities.

The characters in Cinderella are in line with the traditional fairy tale, but with some additional characters. All roles are open so please come on out. We will have a lot of fun!

ELLA (Female Presenting, Actor/Singer, Teen/Adult) is a smart and idealistic young woman who loves to read, is fond of dancing, adores art and music, and longs to see the world, but like all of us from time to time, she’s stuck in a bad situation and needs help.

PRINCE CHARMING (Male Presenting, Actor/Singer, Teen/Adult) is a smart young man who is lonely, and while he longs to find that “certain someone” to cherish and to share his royal life with him, he’s not terribly happy about having to find her under a deadline.

QUEEN/KING DARLING III (Male/Female Presenting, Actor/Singer, Adult) They may “rule the land with gentle hand,” but they are determined that their recalcitrant son WILL marry by his 21st birthday, according to the law. Looking for a character actor who can perform the musical number with comic aplomb, while still being able to find the heart of the parent/child relationship.

STEP MAMA (Female Presenting, Actor/Singer, Adult) just adores her two lovely daughters, but Cinderella? Not so much. She considers herself to be beautiful, refined, and cultured. Not so much. We are looking for an actress with comedy chops, and a lot of attitude!

THE STEP SISTERS, HENRIETTA AND GERTRUDE (Female Presenting, Actors, Adult) Requires two Actors capable of creating characters with a broad comic style, including some physical comedy, with a touch of the Kardashians. We will be looking to work together to bring these newly imagined characters to the stage!

FAIRY GODMOTHER (Female Presenting, Actor/Singer, Adult) is a clever and energetic fairy with a sparkly magic wand, mystical incantations, and a few unexpected tricks up their sleeve. FG is sympathetic to Cinderella’s situation, and helps with magic and a little bit of loving advice, in spite of the occasional setback.

HELPERS (Any gender, requires strong physicalization, Actor/Singer, Teen/Adult) The FG’s two annually-renamed assistants who help out by screening potential aid recipients, running various tasks around the kingdom for her, and disguising themselves as mortals when necessary. They also have several funny bits, and a good song-and-dance routine.

PAGES (Any gender, Actor/Singer, Teen) Two pages patiently assist Queen/King Darling. They are everything from the Monarch’s personal assistants to personal bodyguards.

MICE/HORSES/TOWN KIDS (4 Children roles, ages 8-12) Can you sing like a little mouse? Can you sing like a confused horse? Can you sing like a regular kid? Can you trot around the stage like a horse – neighing and shaking your long silky mane?

ENSEMBLE (Any gender, Singers/Dancers, Teen/Adult). The ensemble will appear as townsfolk in the town square, singing and swaying to a rousing Christmas folk tune and having fun. In the ballroom scene, they will appear as proper Lords and Ladies in beautiful outfits, performing traditional ballroom dances that are fun and easy to learn: Polonaise, Waltz, Minuet, and the ever-popular Sneeze Polka. (Hankies provided) Ensemble actors may also be asked to understudy other parts.

About the Production Team

This production will be directed by Laura Bess Jernigan. The choreographer will be Nancy Rich. The Music Director will be Katherine Anderson.

About the Auditions

Those auditioning are asked to wear comfortable clothing which allows for freedom of movement and shoes suitable for dancing.

Auditions: Please prepare a 16-bar cut (30 seconds to 1 minute of music) of a musical theatre audition song that showcases your voice, and bring the sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. We would prefer no tracks or acapella. Accompanist will not transpose.

The dance audition will consist of learning a short combination in small groups. Please wear appropriate clothing and closed toed shoes.

Callbacks are for speaking roles only. The ensemble will be cast based on singing/dancing auditions, and will not be required at callbacks. Callbacks will consist of readings from the script and singing through songs from the show. You may also be asked to do some dancing.
