Auditions: Beanstalk! The Musical! (Rescheduled)
Raleigh Little Theatre will be holding auditions for Beanstalk! The Musical!, Book by Ross Mihalko and Donna Swift, Music by Linda Berg, Lyrics by Ross Mihalko, on Tuesday, January 16 and Friday, January 19 with callbacks on Monday, January 22. The production will be performed in the Gaddy-Goodwin Theatre and will be directed by Kathleen Rudolph.
Important dates
Auditions:
- Dates: Tuesday and Friday, January 16 & 19, 2018 (you only need to come one of these nights)
- Registration: 6:30pm-7:00pm in the lobby of the Cantey V. Sutton Theatre Theatre
- Audition begins: 7:00pm
Callbacks: Monday, January 22 starting at 7:00pm. Check-in in the lobby of the Cantey V. Sutton Theatre Theatre
First cast meeting: Wednesday, January 24 at 6:30pm
No conflicts after: March 9. No more than 5 conflicts for the entire duration of the rehearsal process.
Preview: Thursday, March 15th
Opening: Friday, March 16th
Performances: March 16 – April 1, 2018
Note: We have two performances on April 1 which is Easter Sunday.
Strike: April 1st following the 5:00pm show. All actors are expected to participate in strike.
School Day Performances: Wednesday, March 21 at 10:00am and 12:30pm
Actors must be at theatre at 9:00am. Actors must be able to take off from work/school. Actors should be able to leave at 2:00pm. It is extremely important for students to check this date to verify that it does not conflict with school commitments.
Two show days: March 17-18, 24-25, 31 – April 1. Shows at 1:00 and 5:00pm.
Actors are required to stay at theatre. We will feed you!
About the show
This fun, family show follows the adventures of Jack, a young boy with his head in the clouds and his nose in a book of fairy tales. Filled with hilarious characters, toe-tapping tunes and more twists than a climbing vine, this is one show that’s guaranteed to grow and grow right into your heart.

About the roles
All characters sing. Characters with a * have solos and must be strong singers.
2 Narrators – (male or female, 15 to adult) The tellers of the tale.
Jack* – (male, 11 to 18) A kind-hearted boy who believes in fairy tales.
Jack 2* – (male, 11 to 18) Jack in disguise.
Jack 3* – (male or female, 11 to 18) Jack in another disguise.
Mother* – (female, adult) Jack’s mother, grumpy old woman who used to be rich and happy.
Cow – (female, 11 to adult) Jack’s best friend.
Skunk Merchant – (male or female, 13 to adult) A seller of skunks.
Cheese Merchant – (male or female, 13 to adult) A seller of cheese.
Potpourri Merchant – (male or female, 13 to adult) A seller of potpourri.
Beanseller* – (male, adult) A mysterious bean merchant with a secret past.
The One That Got Away – A fugitive in the magical land above the clouds.
The Giant* – (male, adult) A big man with a big appetite for little people.
Giant’s Wife* – (female, adult) A big woman with a big heart.
Hen – (female, 11 to adult) An enchanted and exhausted hen that lays golden eggs.
Harp* – (female, 14 to adult) A magical singing harp who acts like an opera star and diva.
About the auditions
Actors ages 11 and older are eligible to audition.
All those auditioning should be ready to sing 16 bars of an upbeat show tune, unaccompanied. In addition, please come prepared to move – this means no skirts, sandals, flip flops or restrictive clothing. Please wear sneakers or jazz shoes and comfortable clothes.
All roles involve singing and movement, so we are looking for unique physical talents that you may have (ex: gymnastics, dance, juggling). Auditions may also involve improvisation and ensemble-building exercises.
Cold readings from the script will be done during the call back process.
Headshots and resumes are welcome but not required. Please remember to fill out the Conflict Calendar.
Callbacks will involve singing and readings from the script.
Perusal copies of the scripts will be available for a 48 hour check out before the audition date from the RLT office which is located in the rear of the building and opened from 9:00am-5:00pm Mon-Fri. Please call the business office to check on availability (919) 821-4579.
