Our adult acting classes are designed to develop a variety of theatrical skills and prepare participants for the stage in a safe and nurturing environment. We offer classes for all experience levels, taught by local theatre professionals. We hope you’ll join us!

REGISTRATION OPENS 7/22

 

Session 1

September 13 – October 18

Sundays, 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm

Beginning Acting

This class is designed for adults who want to give acting a try, or revisit the basics in order to improve their technique! Students will participate in lively theatre games and exercises designed to free up the voice and body, stimulate creativity, promote self-confidence, and teach the building blocks of acting.

 

Character Development

Students will use scenes and/or monologues to develop an approach for developing a detailed, multi-faceted character as an actor. Students will explore different ways into creating a character from the initial steps of text analysis all the way through fully embodying the character on stage.

 

The Actor’s Process

This class builds on foundational acting skills by challenging students to grow through scene study, character analysis, and script interpretation. Emphasis is placed on making strong acting choices, refining performance techniques, and responding authentically to scene partners. 

Session 2

November 1 – December 13

Beginning Acting

This class is designed for adults who want to give acting a try, or revisit the basics in order to improve their technique! Students will participate in lively theatre games and exercises designed to free up the voice and body, stimulate creativity, promote self-confidence, and teach the building blocks of acting.

 

Intermediate Acting

This class is designed for adult actors with some prior experience who are ready to deepen their craft. Through scene study, character development, and script analysis, students will strengthen their ability to make bold choices, connect authentically with scene partners, and bring greater truth to their performances.

 

Acting for the Camera

This class is designed for students that want to give acting for the camera a try. Whether you are interested in perfecting your video auditions or interested in acting for film and television, this class is for you. Come and learn techniques that will help you deliver great acting on camera.

Session 3

January 17 – February 21

Sundays, 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm

Beginning Acting

This class is designed for adults who want to give acting a try, or revisit the basics in order to improve their technique! Students will participate in lively theatre games and exercises designed to free up the voice and body, stimulate creativity, promote self-confidence, and teach the building blocks of acting.

 

Acting Techniques

Explore the fundamentals of acting in a fun, supportive environment! Students will be introduced to a variety of acting techniques, including Stanislavski, Meisner, and Method Acting, through games, improvisation, scene work, and character exercises. This class helps build confidence, creativity, and strong performance skills while encouraging each actor to discover their own unique approach to bringing characters to life.

 

Perfecting your 16 bars for Musical Theatre Audition

Explore and sharpen your musical theatre audition skills and make a strong impression–in just 16 bars. Students will learn how to choose the right audition cut, interpret lyrics with clarity and emotion, and deliver polished, confident performances. With focused coaching on vocal technique, acting through song, and audition preparation, this class helps students fine-tune their audition material and walk into any audition room ready to shine.

March 14 – April 25

This class is designed for adults who want to give acting a try, or revisit the basics in order to improve their technique! Students will participate in lively theatre games and exercises designed to free up the voice and body, stimulate creativity, promote self-confidence, and teach the building blocks of acting.

 

Actor’s Studio: Fundamentals of IMPROV 

Discover the world of improvisation and how the skills involved connect and transfer to other areas of your life. In this class you will build skills such as spontaneity, listening, and collaborating with others as you create and act out scenes without an established script.  This class builds confidence, creativity, and allows one to trust their instincts.  No experience is needed to come and have FUN in this class.

 

Actor’s Studio: Voice Acting

Students will learn how to effectively use their voice to deliver emotions, characters, and tell a story.  Through vocal exercises and performing various scenes, students will work on vocal range, control, articulation, and projection.  Students will develop the skills to gain confidence in voiceover work.

Accessibility & Inclusion

RLT is committed to making our education programs accessible and engaging for all students. Please note any specific accommodations you need on the registration form when signing up for class. RLT staff will then follow up to discuss your needs and our capacity for support. Accommodations that we have experience providing include: wheelchair accessible class spaces, large print materials, setting up a visit to RLT before class begins, making fidgets available to support student listening, supporting students to take a break when needed and designing activities to accommodate sensory sensitivities or needs. If there is something that would make a difference for our teaching artists to know ahead of time regarding engagement and support for you, please share it with us before class begins. Refund Policy for Classes

All classes must be paid in full at registration.  There is a $2.49 non refundable Course Storm fee per registration. There is a refund fee of 7.75% of registration.  Refunds minus the fee ($2.49 + 7.75%), will only be made if the student officially withdraws 2 weeks before the start of a class.

To officially withdraw from a class or camp, please email Education@nullRaleighLittleTheatre.org.

If you withdraw from class less than 2 weeks prior to a class or camp, there are no refunds.  But you can receive class credit in the amount of the class registration. If a class is canceled due to low enrollment, you will have the option to switch into another class or receive a full refund.

End of Session Class Sharings

Each RLT class culminates with a sharing of student work. In our adult classes, teaching artists and students will decide together if they would like to open this sharing to family and friends or if the class prefers to keep it closed and only share their work with other classmates.

COVID-19 Health and Safety

Masks will be optional for students, teaching artists, and teaching assistants for both indoor and outdoor classes. Masks will remain optional unless COVID-19 case numbers rise to put Wake County in the red (high) level, as defined by the CDC. Students, teaching artists, and teaching assistants will be notified upon arrival if masks are required. Regardless of mask requirements, the refund policy still applies.
