03/04/2025

Welcome to RLT’s 2025-2026 Season!

Welcome to our 2025-2026 season! We love creating unforgettable experiences, which is why we’ve put together an exciting season full of diverse stories just for you. From big, bold musicals in the Sutton Theatre to intimate, clever shows in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre, and outdoor performances in the one-of-a-kind Stephenson Amphitheatre, we can’t wait for you to be part of it all.

I am immensely proud to announce that the opening show of the season is Hadestown. For the first time in its 30 year history, this culminating production of our summer musical theatre intensive – Teens on Stage/Teens Backstage – is available for our subscribers. An 8-time Tony Award- and Grammy-winning musical, Hadestown on the Cantey V. Sutton Stage is going to be something special to experience.

People come to the theatre for all kinds of reasons – to escape, to connect, to learn, to tap their toes, or to see the world in a new way. No matter what brings you here, Raleigh Little Theatre is YOUR community theatre. Within our historic walls, unforgettable moments are waiting to be shared.

All my best,

Book, Music, and Lyrics by Anaïs Mitchell

Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a journey to the underworld and back through the retelling of a haunting Greek tragedy. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Hadestown pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience.

Hadestown: Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical, presented by RLT’s 2025 Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage summer program. This version is modified for performance by teen actors for family audiences.

In Mad Libs Live!, our story begins at the finals of Teen Superstars, the live TV show that will determine the most popular singing group at Blankville Central High. Virtuosa, Gogo, Geyser, and Merrily seem to have nothing in common – until just before airtime, when they realize that their songs are missing words! In the spirit of the “World’s Greatest Word Game,” our gang fills in the blanks with words from the audience. This truly interactive musical changes at every performance – thanks to you! Who will be the next Teen Superstars? There is only one way to find out: Mad Libs Live!

Witch | Dark Comedy

By Jen Silverman

A charming devil arrives in the quiet village of Edmonton to bargain for the souls of its residents in exchange for their darkest wishes. Elizabeth should be his easiest target, having been labeled a “witch” and cast out by the town, but her soul is not so readily bought. As the devil returns to convince her – and then returns again – unexpected passions flare, alliances are formed, and the village is forever changed. An inventive retelling of a Jacobean drama, this sharp, subversive fable debates how much our souls are worth when hope is hard to come by.

1939 Hollywood is abuzz. Legendary producer David O. Selznick has shut down production of his new epic, Gone with the Wind, because something’s not right with the script. Summoning both famed screenwriter Ben Hecht and formidable director Victor Fleming, he locks the doors, closes the shades, and on a diet of bananas and peanuts, the three men labor over five days to fashion a screenplay that will become the blueprint for one of the most successful and beloved films of all time.

1776 | Musical

Thursday – Saturday at 8:00 PM, Sunday at 3:00 PM

Music and Lyrics by Sherman Edwards
Book by Peter Stone
Based on a concept by Sherman Edwards

Originally Produced on the Broadway Stage by Stuart Ostrow

It’s the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence… if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! 1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.

The seminal event in American history blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. Celebrate the semiquincentennial of the United States at 1776!

Louise “Scottie” Stephenson Amphitheatre
General Admission
Saturday – Sunday at 1:00 PM & 3:00 PM

Adapted by Edward Mast
Based on The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

Bilbo Baggins, one of the most reserved of all Hobbits, is asked to leave his large, roomy and very dry home in the ground in order to set off as chief robber in an attempt to recover an important treasure. It’s the last thing that any sensitive Hobbit would want to do, but a great treasure lies in store – not only for Bilbo, but for all of the Hobbits who inhabit Middle Earth. This 60-minute adaptation of the beloved tale will be a delight to those children and adults who continue to enjoy the magic of Tolkien.

Cantey V. Sutton Theatre
Reserved Seating

New Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Based on the hit movie, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock – The Musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn an extra bit of cash by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A pupils into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band. But can he get them to the Battle of the Bands without their parents and the school’s headmistress finding out?
