Adventure Drama
The Hobbit
Bilbo Baggins, one of the most reserved of all Hobbits, is asked to leave his large, roomy and very dry home in the ground in order to set off as chief robber in an attempt to recover an important treasure. It’s the last thing that any sensitive Hobbit would want to do, but a great treasure lies in store – not only for Bilbo, but for all of the Hobbits who inhabit Middle Earth. This 60-minute adaptation of the beloved tale will be a delight to those children and adults who continue to enjoy the magic of Tolkien.
Adapted by Edward Mast
Based on The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
Directed by Flora Bare
Produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of Woodstock, Illinois.

Attending a performance in the Amphitheatre

RLT’s Louise “Scottie” Stephenson Amphitheatre
Since the amphitheatre is part of a City of Raleigh park, please adhere to the following rules:
- You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages
- The theatre reserves the right to check coolers for outside alcohol
- No open flames or candles (including citronella candles)
- No glass bottles allowed
- Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash and be well-behaved
Bringing blankets or chairs makes seating more comfortable. Lawn chairs or folding chairs work well. There is grass between the concrete benches, and chairs fit well in that space.
Indoor restroom facilities, which are wheelchair accessible, are available at the Main Stage lobby entrance.
The RLT staff parking lot (next to the rose garden) is only for drop off of patrons with wheelchairs or mobility issues – no parking. You may park in the main RLT parking lot or on the street where signposted.
In the event of a weather cancellation, all ticket holders will be notified via email with as much notice as possible. We will do our best to reschedule all ticket holders into future performances, subject to ticket availability.
