Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!”

October 23 - 31, 2021

RLT’s Louise “Scottie” Stephenson Amphitheatre (General Admission)

An elephant named Gerald and a pig named Piggie are the very “bestus” of friends! In this vaudevillian romp, Elephant and Piggie sing their way through a day where anything is possible. They go to a party hosted by the Squirrelles, wear silly hats, learn a new dance, and share ice cream! Their perfect day hits a snag when Gerald accidently breaks Piggie’s new toy and her feelings get hurt. Will their friendship withstand the tragedy of a broken toy? See your favorite moments from the Elephant & Piggie book series come to life in this bouncy and fun musical!

Sensory Friendly performance information

Due to the nature of the show, all performances are considered sensory-friendly. Please note: amplified microphones will be used during this production, so unexpected noises such as microphone feedback may occur. Our goal with sensory-friendly programming is to create a welcoming, inclusive, and relaxed environment for those with sensory sensitivities. Artwork

The poster artwork for Elephant & Piggie’s “We Are in a Play!” was created by Kat Randle:

Kat Randle is an animator and illustrator who grew up in RLT’s education program. She continued her theatre education at Emerson College and The Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theatre before exiting the stage to study art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Though currently based in Tokyo, she’s incredibly grateful to be able to be a part of the RLT community from afar. You can find more of her work on Vimeo and YouTube under her name.

Attending a performance in the Amphitheatre

Since the amphitheatre is part of a City of Raleigh park, please adhere to the following rules:

  • You are welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic beverages
  • The theatre reserves the right to check coolers for outside alcohol
  • No open flames or candles (including citronella candles)
  • No glass bottles allowed
  • Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash and be well-behaved

Bringing blankets or chairs makes seating more comfortable. Lawn chairs or folding chairs work well. There is grass between the concrete benches, and chairs fit well in that space.

Indoor restroom facilities, which are wheelchair accessible, are available at the Main Stage lobby entrance. Porta-johns, which are also wheelchair accessible, are located to the left of the stage near the ramp.

The RLT parking lot will only be open to vehicles with disability parking placards as well as limited parking in the front half of the lot for anyone. The RLT staff parking lot is only for drop off of patrons with wheelchairs or mobility issues – no parking. You may park on the street where signposted.
