Musical
Cinderella 2021
After a year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Cinderella is returning to RLT for its 37th year in 2021! This musical comedy is a holiday sugarplum for the whole family. Just the right mixture of comedy and romance can add the sparkle of magic to your holiday season. This visually stunning musical combines elegant costumes and scenery with singing, dancing, conniving step-relatives, and resourceful fairy folk.
This version of Cinderella is the perfect family outing during the holiday season, with the Royal Ball taking place on Christmas Eve. Join the cast in singing “We Wish You a Merry a Christmas,” and come celebrate the holidays at RLT!
Based on the fairy tale by Charles Perrault
Adaptation and lyrics by Jim Eiler
Music by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargy
Directed by Mike McGee

Opening Night, December 3rd @ 7:30 PM | Coats for the Children
Opening night of Cinderella proudly benefits WRAL TV’s Coats for the Children, with $5 of every ticket sold going to provide warm coats for children in need.
Additionally, we will have a Coats for the Children collection box set up in the lobby during the entire run of the show, so feel free to bring new toys and gently used clean coats, hats, and gloves with you to the theatre to make a donation. Learn more about what you can donate on WRAL’s website.
Saturday & Sunday performances | Cinderella Boutique
Our Cinderella shopping boutique will be set up outside this year during weekend performances only. Shop for tiaras and wands, t-shirts, ornaments, and more before and after Saturday & Sunday 2:00pm shows and before Saturday & Sunday 5:30pm shows, weather permitting. Knock out some of your holiday shopping during your afternoon at the theatre! All sales benefit RLT.
Thank you to our incredible volunteers, Gloria Rich and Tamara Hopson, for making the boutique possible.
Show Changes
As a health and safety precaution for our cast and audience members, this year’s production of Cinderella will not include moments where cast members enter the audience during the show (trying on the glass slipper, etc.) or a meet and greet with the cast in the lobby after each performance. We appreciate your understanding and know you will still have a magical time!
A note from Tim Cherry…
Dr. Timothy Cherry, who played Stepsister Henrietta for the past 20+ years, would like to share the following with RLT’s audiences:
It is with immeasurable sorrow and pain that I step down permanently from RLT’s “Cinderella” this year. The privilege of performing in this musical has meant more to me than most people realize. “Cinderella” was the first story my mother told me as a child, and it has meant a great deal to me ever since.
Just before our entrance that first year, Dennis Poole and I grabbed each other’s hands for a few seconds. I was absolutely horrified, but during those few seconds, I realized that Dennis had my back, no matter what went wrong. I’m not sure I could have made that entrance without that assurance. We continued that tradition for every performance since. I had hoped to join my “sister” Dennis for one more season. However, the difficulties of playing a 73-year old BEAUTIFUL (that word IS in the script) ingenue, as well as other factors, have made it impossible. Thanks to all the countless folks who have shared this journey with me, onstage, backstage, in the pit, or in the house. I send all of you my love.
