Rudra Dutta

Rudra Dutta was born in Kolkata, India, in 1968, where he completed elementary schooling, followed by a B.Engg. in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata, an M.Engg.. in Systems Science and Automation from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from NC State University, Raleigh, USA. From 1993 to 1997 he worked for IBM as a network and application software engineer. He has been employed since 2001 as a member of the faculty in the Computer Science department at NC State, where he currently holds the rank of Full Professor, and as of Fall 2018, also serves as Associate Department Head. He is a senior member of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a distinguished member (distinguished engineer) of the Association for Computing Machinery.

Dr. Dutta’s research interests focus on architecture, design, and performance optimization of large networking systems: Internet architecture, IoT/wireless networks, and network orchestration. His work has been supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, the Army Research Office, the National Security Agency, and industry. He has served his scientific community in leadership positions in conferences and workshops organization, as a panel reviewer for national funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation, Department of Energy, Army Research Office, and NSERC (Canada), and as a referee and editor for leading journals such as IEEE Transactions on Networking.

Since 1994, he and his wife have lived in Cary, North Carolina, and followed their respective passions in the theatre arts and painting, engaged in the community in various ways, and raised their son and daughter, and a dog and a bird.
