Beyond the Stage Door Field Trips
Raleigh Little Theatre offers field trips for grades K-12!
Field trips run 10am-12:30pm on the date you book and include a workshop and a tour experience for a maximum of 50 students per day. The two hour field trip includes a drama workshop and a backstage tour for students.
Workshops
Field trips consist of a backstage tour and a workshop experience. When booking your field trip, you can choose from the following workshop topics:
- Stories Alive (grades K-5): Students will participate in theatre exercises designed to sharpen skills every actor needs to bring a story to life using their body, voice and imagination.
NC Essential Standards: Theatre Arts C.1.1, C.1.2 - Actor’s Toolbox (grades 3-8): Students will engage the actor’s tools of body, voice and imagination to create characters and short scenes. Fun theatre games help to reinforce the value of focus and the importance of teamwork.
NC Essential Standards: Theatre Arts C.1.1, C.1.2, C.2.1 - Intro to Improvisation (grades 5-12): Through collaborative theatre activities, students will practice the necessary skills for improvisation including listening, making strong choices, spontaneity and the golden rule of improv: saying yes to the scene to create a story!
NC Essential Standards: Theatre Arts C.1.1, C.1.2, C.2.1
Backstage Tour
In this one-hour backstage tour, students get a rare look at the world the audience doesn’t see including the costume shop, dressing rooms, backstage and the scene shop. Students get an actor’s view of both stages, and learn about the various theatre jobs and skills required to produce a play.
NC Essential Standards: Theatre Arts AE.1.1, AE.1.2, CU.2.1, CU.2.2
Lunch
Between the workshop and the theatre, there is a brief break for restroom use. Your group is welcome to have lunch outdoors in the Amphitheater or Rose Garden after the workshop and tour experiences conclude. Each group will need to supply their own lunches. No food or drink is available to purchase on site.
Cost
The total cost of the two-hour field trip is based on the number of students:
- 10-25 students: $200.00
- 26-50 students: $400.00
Note: Wake County Public Schools can apply for transportation funding for a field trip to RLT through the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County. See their Wheels on the Bus grant page for details.
