Auditions: Beehive: The 60’s Musical

Raleigh Little Theatre is seeking performers for its upcoming production of Beehive: The 60’s Musical. This show will be presented in our outdoor Stephenson Amphitheatre. Auditions will take place in-person at Raleigh Little Theatre – see below for details.

Important Dates

Auditions (singing and dancing): Tuesday, June 1, and Wednesday, June 2, at 7:00 PM. Registration from 6:30 PM. In RLT’s Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre.
Callbacks: Thursday, June 3, in the Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre.
Rehearsals: Rehearsals will begin Monday, June 28.
Tech rehearsals: August 7 – 10

Preview Performance: August 11
Performances: Opens August 12 and runs through August 28 with possible rain dates/extension through September 4.

About the Show

Beehive celebrates the powerful female voices of the 1960’s with such timeless hits as “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “Be My Baby,” “Son of a Preacher Man,” and “Me and Bobby McGee.” Told from the perspective of six women who come of age in this enigmatic decade, Beehive takes us from their first Beehive Dance to the challenges we faced as a nation.

About the Roles

Raleigh Little Theatre encourages actors of any ethnicity, identity, ability, etc. to audition for any role. If the script requires strict adherence to any characteristic(s), those will be listed in the character description. For this production, performers must be 18+.

If you need any specific accommodations to audition, please contact Artistic Director, Patrick Torres, to make your request. Examples of accommodations made in the past are: wheelchair accessible audition space, large print materials, prompters in the audition room, volunteers to help fill out forms, and auditions by appointment. All choreography for the audition and the production will be designed to include actors of all abilities.

WANDA (female 18+) – Serves as the narrator throughout the review. She interacts with the audience throughout the production. Singing and dancing is required for this role*.

JASMINE (female 18+) – Portrays Diana Ross of the Supremes as well as the lead singer of the Chiffons, Judy Craig. Sings songs “One Fine Day,” “Where Did Our Love Go?” “Come See About Me,” and others. Singing and dancing is required for this role*.

LAURA (female 18+) – Portrays Janis Joplin; Lulu and others. Sings songs “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow,” “To Sir With Love,” “Piece of My Heart,” “Try,” “Me and Bobby McGee,” and others. Singing and dancing is required for this role*.

ALLISON (female 18+) – Sings songs “Downtown,” “Where the Boys Are,” “You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” and others. Singing and dancing is required for this role*.

PATTIE (female 18+) – Sings the songs “It’s My Party,” “You Don’t Know Me,” “Wishin’ and Hopin’,” “A Natural Woman,” and others. Singing and dancing is required for this role*.

GINA (female 18+) – Portrays Tina Turner, Aretha Franklin and the lead singer of the Starlets. Sings songs “I Sold My Heart to a Junkman,” “A Fool in Love,” “Proud Mary,” “Respect” and others. Singing and dancing is required for this role*.

*Choreography for this production will accommodate all abilities.

About the Auditions

Those auditioning are asked to wear comfortable clothing which allows for freedom of movement and shoes suitable for dancing. For general auditions, we will be seeing actors in small groups to maintain social distancing. All performers must wear a mask for the duration of their audition, except when they are actively auditioning when they will be properly distanced for safety. Sign up for an audition slot here!

Please prepare 16 bars of a song in the style of the show (60’s or 70’s tune) that showcases your voice, and bring the sheet music in the correct key. An accompanist will be provided. Please also bring the requested forms below (next section of this page).

Perusal copies of the working script will be available for a 48 hour checkout from the RLT business office. The office is located in the rear of our facility and is open from 10:00am-5:00pm, Monday thru Friday. Please call the RLT office at 919-821-4579 to check on availability.
