Open Positions with RLT’s Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage Program!

Raleigh Little Theatre seeks candidates for the following four positions within the summer education program, Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage:

  • Assistant Director
  • Stage Manager
  • Dramaturg
  • Teens Backstage Teaching Assistant

Teens on Stage and Teens Backstage

Teens on Stage is an intensive experience for high school actors that combines classes in advanced acting, voice and movement with rehearsal, culminating in a fully realized production in the Gaddy Goodwin Teaching Theatre. Teens Backstage is the technical theatre component of the program in which a select number of high school students are immersed in all areas of technical theatre and production and work on all aspects of the summer production, including serving as production run crew for performances.

The 2019 production is Don Taylor’s translation of Sophocles’ Antigone.

The Summer 2019 program dates are:

Teens on Stage/Teens Backstage Kick Off Day: Saturday, June 15 10am-4pm

Teens on Stage:

  • Evening Rehearsals: June 17-21, 7:00 am – 9:00pm
  • Teens on Stage Program Dates:
    Mon-Fri, June 24-July 18 (no July 4), 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
    Tech Saturday: July 13, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm

Teens Backstage:

  • Teens Backstage Program Dates:
    Wed–Sat, June 19-July 13 (no July 4), 9:00 am – 5:00 pm
    Mon-Fri, July 15-18, 9:00-5:00pm (technical rehearsals)

Performance Dates:

  • July 18 at 7:30pm (preview)
  • July 19, 20, 26, 27 at 7:30pm
  • July 21 and 28 at 3:00pm

Assistant Director

The assistant director works closely with the director/education director to plan and lead rehearsal time, work one-on-one with actors on specific goals, and lead cast warm ups. This position is ideal for emerging directors with a strong interest in working with teens. Candidates must have regular availability on weekdays between 1 and 5pm during the Teens on Stage program dates. Please note any known calendar conflicts with the program dates in your cover letter. Candidates must be at least 18 years old. A stipend dependent on experience, or college credit if desired, is available as compensation.

Stage Manager

The stage manager works closely with the director throughout rehearsals to ensure a timely and efficient rehearsal process, takes notes at production meetings, creates and distributes regular rehearsal and performance reports, and leads technical rehearsals. A stipend dependent on experience, or college credit if desired, is available as compensation.

Consistent weekday daytime availability is required between 1 and 5pm during all conservatory dates and 9am-5pm for all technical rehearsals, as well as availability for all performances. Candidates must be at least 18 years old.

Dramaturg

The dramaturg supports the research and text analysis components of the process, working primarily with the design team, director and Teens on Stage participants. The ideal candidate will have previous dramaturgical experience, an interest in working with teens, and strong research and writing skills. The dramaturg will be required to attend up to three rehearsals, dependent on production needs. There is flexibility in this schedule for the dramaturg, but availability in the earlier part of the program calendar is preferred. A stipend dependent on experience is available as compensation.

Teens Backstage Teaching Assistant

The Teens Backstage (TBS) teaching assistant works closely with the TBS Technical Director to accomplish the production build and contribute to a positive and meaningful learning experience for all TBS participants. The TBS teaching assistant will also serve as the props master on the production. Candidates must be at least 18 years old. A stipend dependent on experience, or college credit if desired, is available as compensation.
