Raleigh Little Theatre (RLT) exists to create and teach theatre in a way that serves our community, offers a place for all to live their best creative life, and embraces diverse stories, artists, and students in a meaningful and powerful way. To support our mission, we are looking for a colleague to join our small team as the Assistant Technical Director.
What you’ll do…
As the Assistant Technical Director, you will play a fundamental role in ensuring the implementation of all technical aspects of RLT’s production season and theatre operations. For each RLT production, you will work closely with the Production Manager/Technical Director to develop each production’s build schedule and oversee shop operations and the creation of scenery. You will also manage all technical aspects for special events at RLT.
Essential to the work we do at RLT is our community of volunteers, and in this position you will lead the recruitment, training, and management of all technical volunteers. This will include running regularly scheduled work calls, supporting and educating volunteers in the execution of production designs, and organizing and appointing volunteers for various coordinator, crew, and production support positions. You will also organize and complete strikes for each production with volunteer support.
Some of your additional responsibilities as the Assistant Technical Director will include:
- Supervision, maintenance, and upkeep of the scene shop, shop and safety equipment, and production areas.
- Technical assistance and/or supervision as needed for RLT’s education programs.
- Fulfillment of prop rental requests and management of prop rental policies and procedures.
We’d love to hear from you if…
You have at least 2 years of scenic construction experience and working knowledge of overhead rigging safety and practices. Experience with lighting and/or sound systems is also encouraged, but not required.
You have strong communication skills, both oral and written, as well as the ability to effectively interact with individuals of varied ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
You are committed to continuous learning, training, and accountability in RLT’s equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism work.
The Assistant Technical Director will also need a valid (or the ability to obtain) a North Carolina driver’s license, be able to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and safely, and be comfortable working at heights and ascending/descending ladders.
Hours and location: Schedule will be coordinated with the Production Manager/Technical Director – night and weekend hours will be necessary and most work will be on site.
This full-time, exempt position includes health, vision, retirement, and life insurance benefits and flexible PTO.
