"If you enjoy Shakespeare, but even more if you enjoy original old-style Appalachian music, get yourself down to Raleigh Little Theatre and see As You Like It." -- Alan R. Hall, CNVC review.
Bare Theatre’s Artistic Director Heather J. Strickland transports the forest lords, Dukes, and beautifully headstrong Rosalind of "As You Like It" into the woods of Appalachia. Taking place in the open air Raleigh Little Theatre’s outdoor stage by the Rose Garden, the show is both music festival and theatre, featuring original music by Greensboro’s The Zinc Kings.
One of Shakespeare's more famous comedies, the story follows Rosalind as she dresses up as a man and runs away to the Forest of Arden after her uncle banishes her from court. There she encounters her true love, Orlando and must find a way to woo him without revealing her true identity.
Along with a roving band of forest lords that always have their fiddle and banjo with them, Rosalind, her cousin Celia, and her clown Touchstone encounter a number of colorful, backwoods characters in a tale of mistaken identities and romance... or something like it.
