An Evening with Jazz Legends: Gershwin at the Piano
Zenph Sound Innovations and Raleigh Little Theatre present:
An Evening with Jazz Legends: Gershwin at the Piano
Gaddy-Goodwin Teaching Theatre (General Admission Seating)
September 15 - October 2
George Gershwin wrote some of the most enduring melodies of the 20th century, but how much do you really know about this great American composer? Did you know he quit school at 15? That he worked as a cigar salesman before becoming a composer? That he was fed up with the music business by 1937 and wanted to become a professional painter?
These facts and many more are illuminated during Zenph Presents Jazz Legends: Gershwin at the Piano, a highly entertaining multimedia piano concert. Featuring a charming, knowledgeable host and a dazzling concert pianist from the Zenph team, you’ll be treated to rare early film footage of the composer, hear his music played live in the form that Gershwin published, and then hear those same tunes played by the composer himself thanks to the magic of Zenph Sound Innovations’ ground-breaking technology. Gershwin fans and newcomers alike will enjoy this fascinating glimpse into the man’s life and music.
Of the recent preview at Quail Ridge Books: "But while [critically acclaimed pianist Phil Amalong's] demonstrations of Gershwin’s written music were gorgeous, it was almost like George walked into the bookstore, shooed him from the bench and said, Let me show you how it’s done." -- read the rest of what WCPE - The Classical Station had to say.
