Gooney Bird Greene and Her True Life Adventures
By Kent R. Brown Part of the RLT 2011-2012 Youth Series.
July 15 – 24, 2011 School is back in session and the students of the Watertower Elementary School are having trouble concentrating. They are bored and listless until suddenly in walks a new student, Gooney Bird Greene, wearing pajamas and cowboy boots. The class is never the same again.
In this photo: Charlotte Hopson as Gooney Bird Greene. Photo by David Watts. Gooney Bird dresses in outrageous outfits, speaks with confidence and casts herself as the hero in the most outlandish stories about her life including how she arrived from China on a flying carpet. But are these stories true? Of course they are, for Gooney Bird only tells “absolutely true stories!” Gooney Bird’s flair for storytelling awakens the students’ imaginations and inspires them to tell their own true life tales.
