What:

Auditions for Hot Mikado
Book and lyrics adapted by David H. Bell.
Music adapted and arranged by Rob Bowman.

When:

Monday, June 16 & Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at 7:30 PM

No appointments are necessary.

Where:

Raleigh Little Theatre's Cantey V. Sutton Theatre at
301 Pogue Street Raleigh, NC 27607 (next to Cameron Village)

In Brief:

Hot Mikado is a parody of the Gilbert and Sullivan operetta The Mikado (which is, of course, ALREADY a parody of Victorian English manners, as seen through a Japanese looking-glass). Set in a Jazzy, fantasy 1940's Japan (kind of a "Zoot-suits-in-Chinatown" look), the show features the inhabitants of a village called Titi-Pu. A wandering musician named Nanki-Poo enters the scene, looking for his true love, Yum-Yum. Unfortunately for Nanki-Poo, Yum-Yum is about to marry her ward, Ko-Ko. What transpires is a rowdy tale that combines Gilbert and Sullivan's timeless style with a heavy dose of swing and blues.

Casting for Hot Mikado is intended to be completely multi-cultural, with the Mikado, Katisha and Pooh-Bah specifically singing in African-American musical styles.

Auditioners should prepare an up-beat ("jazzy") number. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the correct key. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes for a short movement audition.

Perusal scripts are available through Raleigh Little Theatre's business office. Please call the business office at (919)821-4579 to check on availability.
