Ann Lincoln starred in her first play in the 1940s at the Raleigh Little Theatre launching a career that would include roles in dozens of plays, a popular television series and movies. The actress made her stage debut in the RLT production Our Town when she was 16-years-old and won a CANTEY award for her portrayal of Mama in I Remember Mama in 1977. This month she will be starring as Carrie Watts in the Horton Foote play, The Trip to Bountiful, 62 years lapsing since her first performance with the theatre.

Ann studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Art in New York and made her first Broadway appearance opposite Henderson Forsythe in the American National Theatre and Academy production of The Cellar and the Well. She also appeared alongside Natalie Wood in the MGM film Brainstorm, and in the popular television series filmed in Wilmington, NC, Dawson’s Creek.  With roles in almost 70 plays, the Raleigh native is certainly a prolific actress.

Anne has remained active in regional theatre, earning awards in productions of Glass Menagerie, Steel Magnolias, and Driving Miss Daisy. She was recently seen as Big Mama in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof for the Wilson Arts Council.

The Raleigh Little Theatre is producing The Trip to Bountiful, a play about the idea of “home.” Ann plays Carrie, a woman nearing the end of her life who is on a quest to return to the Gulf Coast town where she was raised and enjoyed the happiest times of her life. As Carrie struggles to find her way back to Bountiful, the question arises of whether “home” is really just a state of mind.

The Trip to Bountiful opens March 7 and runs through the 23rd.

Mar 9, 16, 23 at 3 pm
