Raleigh Little Theatre’s Divas 2006! Coming Soon!

Wanna put a little "steam heat" into a chilly March night?  Then look no further than the Triangle's own Raleigh Little Theatre’s annual fundraiser, Divas 2006! This sellout one-night-only event features the tremendous talents of  the 10  hottest women stars of the RLT stage singing their hearts out for the chance to be named RLT Diva 2006, complete with bragging rights and tiara!

A unique concert event that is part American Idol and part VH1’s Divas Live, RLT’s diva-wanna-be’s perform music from Broadway, Off-Broadway and Cabaret, along with some group numbers, and the audience votes for their “favorite” diva by donating money to the theatre.  The “diva” who  raises the most money for the theatre gets the title, tiara and bragging rights for a year.  Past RLT Divas are Rebecca “Becky J” Johnston and Yolanda Rabun, both of whom have been invited back this year to perform as part of the evening’s encore.

This year, RLT is amping up the sequins, rhinestones and glitter, alá Las Vegas, for this black-tie optional evening of theater and celebration.  Along with catered pre-concert and post-concert receptions  included in your ticket price  are (took out) raffles and door prizes sponsored by area businesses  The hottest ticket of the night is sure to be the Gilded Glove Raffle where you and enter to win a decorated and autographed pair by our own feisty, battling divas of Las Vegas boxing gloves.

Singing and punching it our the ring for your vote this year are Nancy Watkins Dimitrios, Peggy Hayes, Erin O’Hara, Staci Sabarsky, Carrie Santiago, Melissa Shaheen, Sandi Sullivan, Blair Tecklenberg and Kimberly Wagner.  The more than 25 songs performed during Divas 2006 come from such shows as Dream Girls, Jekyll and Hyde, The Act, Wicked, Phantom of the Opera and much, much more!

Providing ringside, floor assistance and entertainment this year are our fabulous emcee’s Don Smith, Dennis Poole and David McClutchey with musical accompaniment by the incredible Brett Wilson on the baby grand!

RLT’s Alison Lawrence is assuming the directorship of this year’s event for the group numbers and overall theme of the evening. “We want this to be bigger and better than ever to truly reflect the talent and strengths of Raleigh Little Theatre” says Alison, herself a past competitor for the title.  Alison’s star is also rising as she heads off on tour this holiday season with Clay Aiken.

Divas 2006! hits the RLT Cantey V. Sutton Theatre stage on Saturday, March 4, 2006.  The pre-concert reception begins at 6:30 pm and the show begins at 7:30 pm.  The gala evening also includes a catered reception, raffles and door prizes.  All funds benefit Raleigh Little Theatre’s year-round education and performance programs.

Tickets to Divas 2006 are on sale and are $30 ($20 of each ticket is tax-deductible) for general admission seating.  This year, a VIP “Meet-the-Divas” reception will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 @ 7 pm.
