Make a dramatic new year’s resolution – take the stage January 11 at Raleigh Little Theatre’s open house

THE FULL STORY:

Is your New Year’s resolution to add a little drama to your life? If so, Raleigh Little Theatre (RLT) invites anyone who’s ever wanted to run away to the theatre but never quite made it to Backstage Night, the theatre’s twice yearly open house scheduled for Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at 7:30pm.

At Backstage Night, RLT staff members give backstage tours of the theatre and discuss the many ways in which people can get involved with the organization. From scenic painting and construction to sewing costumes, to running lights, to learning sound design, there is always something to do. With eleven shows produced each season, there are auditions for local actors and/or singers almost every month. Ushering, selling tickets, answering phones, troubleshooting computers and/or writing press releases often fits the bill for theatre lovers who want to play a role without actually getting up on stage. Opportunities abound both for theatre neophytes and for M.F.A.’s who, to pay their bills, now find themselves working nine to five in the corporate world.

While audiences come to Raleigh Little Theatre for the professional caliber of its shows, what many do not realize is that all the actors and technicians onstage and backstage are amateurs – in the best sense of the word. Clay Aiken, Jamie Denton and Andy Griffiths all trod the boards at RLT before going on to highly successful professional careers. As a community theatre RLT exists not only to produce high quality productions for its patrons, but also to provide a place for people to act and/or learn theatre craft backstage. Over 400 volunteers of all ages and backgrounds produce Raleigh Little Theatre’s many plays and musicals each season.

Backstage Night will be held at Raleigh Little Theatre, 301 Pogue Street (2 blocks off Hillsborough St.), Raleigh, 27607.  For more information, call RLT at 919-821-4579 or go to the theatre’s web site at www.raleighlittletheatre.org.
