RLT’s Holiday Classic, Cinderella, Opens December 9th with New Costumes & New Faces!

IN BRIEF

Raleigh Little Theatre’s 22nd annual holiday musical production of Cinderella, will open at the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts’ A.J. Fletcher Opera Theatre on Friday, December 9 @ 7:30 pm in this hilarious rendering of the timeless tale of a beautiful young woman whose love is redeemed by a glass slipper.  Tickets are $25 for orchestra seating and $15 for balcony.

NEWS ABOUT RLT’S CINDERELLA

This year’s production features several new costumes for key roles including the Stepsisters, the Wicked Stepmother, the Fairy Godmother, the Fairy Godmother’s Helpers, King Darling and Prince Charming.  Even Cinderella, herself, is getting new sparkles and shimmer on her famous ice-blue ball gown.

RLT’s annual holiday favorite returns for its 22nd year. Based on the fairy tale by Charles Perrault, with adaptation/lyrics by Jim Eiler and music by Jim Eiler and Jeanne Bargey, Cinderella is filled with song and dance, interspersed with hilarity and spectacle, and fills the season with wonder and magic.

This year’s productions see new people in the roles of Stepmama, Fairy Godmother, King Darling and Prince Charming – complete with new costumes!  Word has it that the Wicked Stepmama is being turned into a dragon lady!

Suzanna Dupree returns for the 2nd year in the title role as Cinderella. And M. Dennis Poole and Timothy Cherry are back for their eighth straight year as the very ugly and very funny stepsisters, Gertrude and Henrietta.

This year, the role of the Wicked Stepmama is played by RLT veteran Sandi Sullivan, having appeared in Cinderella most recently as the Fairy Godmother for the past four years.

New to RLT and Cinderella is Julia Ann Roberts as the Fairy Godmother.  Although new to RLT, Julia has performed in many productions including Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat (Narrator), A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (Philia) and Brigadoon (Fiona).

Also appearing in the show are Curtis Scott Brown and Jason Justice as the Fairy Godmother’s helpers; Michael Lester as King Darling III, Florian Kruek as Prince Charming, Daniel Marhelko as the Young Prince and Maria Cannon and Susanna Hailey as the King’s pages.

This year’s crop of cute and talented Mouse/Ponys are Sophie Crouse, Caroline D’Ercole, Michelle Lehman, Matthew Harvey, Patrick Harvey and Trey Lower.

Rounding out the cast is the ensemble with Patrick Berry, Michael Bousquet, Nick Culpepper, Hazel Edmond, Amanda Garrow, Nicole Griffin, Nina Gunnell, Justine Jarus, Terrance Johnson, Evan Kochuk, Rose Martin, Gina Martinez, Matt McGrath, Eli Warren, Anna Wohlrab and Megan Woronka.

This year’s production of Cinderella is sponsored by Coastal Federal Credit Union, Lynch & Howard, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina, Progress Energy, Empire Properties, Two Men and a Truck ® and The News & Observer.

Tickets are $25 for orchestra seating and $15 for balcony.  All seats are reserved seating. Raleigh Little Theatre is located at 301 Pogue Street (2 blocks off Hillsborough Street), Raleigh, 27607. Box Office: 919-821-3111 / www.raleighlittletheatre.org.
