Peter Pan

The Raleigh Little Theatre Education Program is in its 21sth year. We offer year-round instruction for children ages 4 to 12, as well as for teenagers – an initiative supported by two full time staff, along with adjunct faculty. More than 800 students enroll each year in classes, camps and workshops. These are offered on-site and in Apex through its Parks and Recreation Department.

Most of our classes focus on the process of creating theatre through fun, imaginative, nurturing, creative play and ensemble building. Some of our classes for the seasoned student are geared more toward performance. Each session of classes culminates in an Open Classroom to give parents and friends a taste of the participants’ everyday experience in the program.

Dramatic Play

Age: 4

Class focus: To encourage young students to express themselves vocally as well as physically and to exercise that great pretending machine. No previous experience necessary. Limit 12 students.

Thursday is show day and we need homeschoolers to take the show on the road to area schools and track out programs. In this performance class, students will develop acting skills, explore character creation and experience the fun of being part of a traveling ensemble. Entrance is by audition only. This class gives students with physical, emotional, learning and developmental disabilities an opportunity to gain self-esteem, improve social and communication skills and explore new modes of self-expression – all in a non-competitive, structured atmosphere. This session will culminate in an open classroom highlighting the individual talents of all involved. Support staff is welcome. No previous experience necessary. Limit 12 students.

Cost:

Hats Off! To Mother Earth Workshop

Ages: 6 – 10

Or, rather, hats on, as we create extraordinary and outlandish hats from recyclable materials (newspapers, magazines, paper bags, paper plates, cardboard, bottle caps, you name it ...just as long as it can be recycled or composted). A “green salute” to our planet, in a lighthearted observance of Earth Day. All materials provided in this make-and-take workshop. No previous experience necessary. Limit 12 students.

This performance class is for the serious actor who is willing to work on character creation, relationships on stage and memorization. Actors will learn bold choice-making and teamwork, all while exploring scripted material. The session will end with a bare-bones production of In One Basket, by Shirley Pugh. Discover what is needed to stage one dozen folk and fairy tales. No experience necessary. Raleigh Little Theatre instructs. Limited to 12 participants.

RLT Players To Go!

Ages: 10 – 13

Places please! It’s show time! In this performance class students will continue to develop their acting skills as they rehearse a show to be performed for families at area libraries. Being part of a trouping ensemble is fun and a great way to grow as an actor. Entrance is by audition only. Check back here in the fall for show details, cast size and audition information.

Cost:  $190 - 20 instructional hours

Access Theatre Now! SESSION 3 CANCELLED

Ages: 7 and up

This class gives students with physical, emotional, learning and developmental disabilities an opportunity to gain self-esteem, improve social and communication skills and explore new modes of self-expression – all in a non-competitive, structured atmosphere. This session will culminate in an open classroom highlighting the individual talents of all involved. Support staff is welcome. No previous experience necessary. Limit 12 students.

Cost:

$90 for sessions I, III and IV - 7 instructional hours
$50 for session II - 4 instructional hours

Hats Off! To Mother Earth Workshop

Ages: 6 – 10

Or, rather, hats on, as we create extraordinary and outlandish hats from recyclable materials (newspapers, magazines, paper bags, paper plates, cardboard, bottle caps, you name it ...just as long as it can be recycled or composted). A “green salute” to our planet, in a lighthearted observance of Earth Day. All materials provided in this make-and-take workshop. No previous experience necessary. Limit 12 students.

Creative Drama (APEX)

Ages: 6 – 8

Students will develop their creativity through movement, sound, improvisation and pantomime.  They will learn to focus their energy as they explore skills needed to bring a story to life such as concentration, voice, dialogue and characterization.  No experience necessary.  Raleigh Little Theatre instructs.  Limited to 12 participants.

Free your imagination and discover yourself on stage!  Through scripted scenes, students will explore character development, character relationships, memorization skills and rehearsal techniques.  No experience necessary.  Raleigh Little Theatre instructs. Limited to 16 participants.

Apex Players (APEX)

Ages: 10 – 13

This performance class is for the serious actor who is willing to work on character creation, relationships on stage and memorization. Actors will learn bold choice-making and teamwork, all while exploring scripted material. The session will end with a bare-bones production of In One Basket, by Shirley Pugh. Discover what is needed to stage one dozen folk and fairy tales. No experience necessary. Raleigh Little Theatre instructs. Limited to 12 participants.
