Teens on StageFor ages 13–18 This intensive five week theatre program culminates in 15 performances of The Great Cross Country Race, which opens Raleigh Little Theatre’s 2010–2011 Season. TOS students take morning conservatory classes which include movement, acting, voice and improvisation. The afternoons are spent in rehearsal. About the TOS play: This summer’s play is The Great Cross Country Race by Alan Broadhurst. The play presents a behind the scenes look at the classic race between the slow-moving Tortoise and the scatter-brained Hare as they make their way through a world of confusing, foolish and unintelligible humans. The script offers wonderful and challenging roles for teen actors. About the TOS auditions: Audition information is now available. All candidates must come prepared to present a contemporary one minute monologue and participate in theatre exercises, which demonstrate flexibility in physical and vocal expression. Please wear clothing which allows for freedom of movement. Call-backs will consist of cold readings from the script. Auditions: March 15, 6:30–9:30pm Director: Linda O’Day Young Cost: $650 Once accepted into the program, please send in the registration form (PDF) Teens BackstageFor ages 13–18 TBS students learn by doing as they participate in numerous behind the scenes activities such as building and painting scenery, hanging and focusing lights and finding and creating props for the TOS production of The Great Cross Country Race. Learn the ins-and-outs of how to audition on camera for commercials, television shows, movies and industrials. Students will have the opportunity to practice these techniques and then review and critique their own audition. Knowing how to present yourself is the first step to getting an agent and landing work. More and more production companies are coming to NC to shoot so learn how to impress that casting agent and land that role! No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students. June 21–25, 12:30–5:30pm Cost: $180 To enroll, please send in the registration form (PDF) Scene Play (full-day camp)For ages 14–18 This camp provides actors with two great ways to prepare for the stage. In the mornings students attend classes in improvisation where they learn how to play, be spontaneous, trust their instincts and discover the joy of team work. In the afternoons their attention turns to scene study. Using scripted material, students will learn skills needed to develop believable characters and pursue honest relationships on stage. No previous experience necessary. Limit 18 students. July 26–30, 9:30am–4pm Cost: $260 To enroll, please send in the registration form (PDF) Make A Real Scene (half-day camp)For ages 14–18 Sometimes characters don’t play nicely together. Sometimes a scene involves stage violence such as falls, rolls, punches, hand-to-hand combat and combat with weaponry. The trick is making the physical act seem real to the audience but at the same time, making sure it is safe for the actors. In this exciting camp students will use scripted scenes to explore character development and to learn stage combat skills. Participants need to wear comfortable exercise clothing and closed-toe shoes. No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students. August 9–13, 12:30–5pm Cost: $170 To enroll, please send in the registration form (PDF) Get the Part in that Musical (full-day camp)For ages 14–18 All musical theatre directors want the same thing: a singer who can act and an actor who can sing. This intensive and fun auditioning camp will help you give them what they want and help you get what you want ...that part! Whether you are just starting out or want to refresh your skills, you will gain a new confidence in your audition abilities. In the mornings students will focus on singing, song interpretation, building an audition book, pictures and resumes, as well as audition etiquette. In the afternoon students will learn how to be successful at cold readings in the audition process. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students. August 9–13, 9:30am–4pm Cost: $260 To enroll, please send in the registration form (PDF) For more information about the youth education program, please contact Kathleen Rudolph on 919-821-4579, x225.
