Kids on Stage (Apex)

For ages 9–13

June 22-26, 9:30am – 1:30pm
Instructors: Kathleen Rudolph

Location: Halle Cultural Arts Center, 237 North Salem Street, Apex NC

Stage Door (full-day camp) (Wendell)

For ages 9-12

In this exciting camp, you can have fun, build confidence and make friends as you learn basic acting and rehearsal skills. In the morning, using scripted scenes, students will explore character development, blocking and vocal projection. In the afternoon, they will participate in improvisation exercises designed to promote group problem solving and encourage spontaneity. No previous experience necessary. Limit 16 students.

Apex Players (Apex)

For ages 8–12

July 13–17, 9:30am–12:30pm

Keep 'em Laughing! (full-day camp)

For ages 12–13

Students will explore ways to keep the audience laughing whether it’s through witty banter or as simple as slipping on a banana peel. In the mornings students will learn to create characters and tell stories that are dynamic, funny and totally believable through the use of scripted scenes and original material created by the class. In the afternoons students will explore the world of physical comedy using improvisation. Students should wear comfortable clothing allowing for movement and closed-toe shoes. No previous experience necessary. Limit 18 students.

Theatre Arts Camp (full-day camp)

For ages 6–12

Have fun! Make friends! Exercise your imagination as you play and learn! Act out a story, sing a song, dance to the music, become a mime and create a masterpiece all in one week! Each day begins with a large group activity of theatre games. Then smaller groups will attend daily workshops in acting, singing, art and dance. Students will be placed into smaller groups according to age. Just bring your lunch, two snacks, your imagination and a willingness to give it a try! No previous experience necessary. Limit 66 students.

Kids on Stage (half-day two-week camp)

For ages 10-14

Working with a professional staff, students will gain the experience of being part of a musical theatre ensemble as they work on Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. Take an adventure between sea and land with the young mermaid Ariel and her friends as she defies her father King Triton, makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula and convinces Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking. Plenty of fun roles for both girls and boys in this lively musical. A bare-bones performance will take place for invited friends and family on the last day of camp at 5:30pm. Please bring a healthy snack and water. No previous experience necessary. Limit 25 students.

Note: This is a two-week camp.

August 3-14, 12:00-6:00pm

From The Page To The Stage! (full-day camp)

For ages 12–13

Students will explore movement, music, improvisation, theatre games and creative writing as they create and perform a one of a kind script. No previous experience necessary. Limit 18 students.

RLT Puppetry Players (full-day camp)

For ages 9-12

This camp combines three exciting theatre arts in one week: Puppetry, Improvisation and Playwriting! Students will learn how to manipulate and breathe life into rod puppets and shadow puppets. In addition, through improvisation, they will explore possible puppet plots and characterization and then they will develop playwriting skills as they create their own puppet show! No previous experience necessary. Limit 14 students.

August 10-14, 9:30am-4:00pm
