2001 volunteer award winners

The winners of RLT's volunteer awards for 2000-2001 were as follows:

Charles V. York, Jr. Volunteer Service Award:

Glenn A. Miller Technical Service Award:

  • Ed Bodell

Al D. Wolfheimer Volunteer Award:

Anne Miesel's commendation

Sarah Corrin presented Anne's award:

The Charles V. York Distinguished Service Award is given annually to a volunteer who is known through out the RLT Family as, to put it bluntly, a rock. You know who they are - the people who work in just about every area of the theatre from costume shop to administrative offices to box office to front of house to backstage.

This award is named for one such \"rock\", Charles V. York, who received this award in 1964 for his efforts in bringing about renovations and additions to the theatre.

In other words, we have the Scene Shop, Main Stage dressing rooms and Studio to thank him for.

What do we have this year's recipient to thank for? Without her ticket sales would have slumped, audience members would still be waiting in all our lobbies and concessions would remain unsold. We would have no season members, punch would remain unpoured and there would be a lot of naked actors running around on stage.

For the past 10 years Anne Miesel has played many roles at RLT, including that of Vanna tonight. So we honor her now with the Charles V. York Distinguished Service Award for 2000-2001.

Gretchen Geiger's commendation

Sarah Corrin presented Gretchen's award:

There are some people in this world who take RLT by storm. They show up to volunteer one day and they're veterans immediately. They know how to do everything without any training or explaination. They can even find their way around the building without getting lost in under a week. In fact, within a month, you find yourself asking them to become a production coordinator. It's like they've always been here - only they haven't.

Gretchen Geiger is one of those all-seeing, all-knowing volunteers. In the 14 maybe 15 months that she's been part of RLT, she has been a House Manager Coordinator, stage managed Cinderella, helped with office projects and done just about anything else anybody has asked of her. But with all this activity, she is less a whirlwind than the eye of the storm - calm and in control amidst the tumult of actors, technicians, audience members and productions around her.

Thank you for this year Gretchen. It is my great pleasure to present this wolfie to you.

Joyce Copeland's commendation

Sarah Corrin presented Joyce's award:

Joyce Copeland has been my right hand for the past several years - or maybe I should say left hand, since I'm a lefty.

In the business office, she is one of the pillars that hold it together. Week in and week out she comes by to tackle any project I put together for her. She even does homework when asked from labeling mailings to designing party invitations.

This season she also added Coordinating Ushers for the Family Series to her repetoire and still hasn't broken a sweat. In fact, she's already agreed to coordinate them again next season.

Thank you for your time and energy Joyce. I am so pleased to be able to present this 2000-2001 wolfie to you.
